Mines Strategy & House Edge
Mines is a game of variable risk. The core mechanic is simple: fewer mines mean higher win probability but lower multipliers.
Most crypto casinos like Stake.com and Shuffle operate with a 1% House Edge (99% RTP). This means the multiplier is calculated as:
(Total Tiles / Safe Tiles) × 0.99.
Optimal Configurations
Low Risk (Wagering): 1 Mine, 1-10 Gems. This provides a steady stream of small wins, ideal for completing wagering requirements.
High Variance (Hunting): 5+ Mines, aiming for 5+ Gems. This is where the multipliers grow exponentially, but the risk of hitting a mine increases drastically.
How to Use This Calculator
Step 1: Set Your Parameters
Use the sliders or type directly to set the number of mines (1-24). Click preset buttons for quick configurations like 1, 3, 5, 10, or 20 mines. Click tiles on the interactive grid to simulate revealing gems, or adjust the gems slider manually. Enter your wager amount to see real-time payout calculations.
Step 2: Use the Interactive Grid & Payout Chart
Click tiles on the 5×5 grid to visualize your board and watch the multiplier update in real-time. Tap any cell in the full payout table below to auto-fill the calculator with that mines/gems combo. Yellow cells mark 10x+ multipliers, red cells mark 100x+ ultra-high payouts—perfect for spotting high-value ladders at a glance.
Step 3: Lock In Your Strategy
Review your current multiplier, potential payout, and win chance percentage before heading back to Stake, BC.Game, or Shuffle. The calculator shows your exact odds for the next tile reveal, helping you decide when to cash out or push for higher multipliers. Use the Reset button to start planning a new board configuration.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does this calculator work for Stake.com, Stake.us, BC.Game, Shuffle, and other casinos?
Yes! This calculator works for any casino using the standard 25-tile (5×5) Mines format with 99% RTP. Since Stake uses the same Mines original for both Stake.com and Stake.us, the multipliers match perfectly. It also works for BC.Game, Shuffle, Roobet, Rollbit, and most crypto casinos. As long as the casino uses 1-24 mines on a 25-tile grid with 99% RTP, the payout calculations will be identical.
How is the win chance calculated?
Win chance multiplies the probability of revealing a safe tile on every pick: safe tiles ÷ total tiles for the first gem, (safe tiles − 1) ÷ (total tiles − 1) for the second, and so on. For example, with 3 mines (22 safe tiles), your first pick has 22/25 = 88% chance, second pick is 21/24 = 87.5%, and the cumulative chance for both is 88% × 87.5% = 77%.
Can I download the payout chart for reference?
Yes! You can download the complete Mines payout chart from our download section above. Click the download button to save the full multiplier reference chart (1-24 mines × 1-24 gems) for offline use. Perfect for quick reference while playing.
Does the calculator predict which tiles are safe?
No—and that's by design. This calculator shows probability and expected payouts, not predictions. Mine locations are locked by cryptographic seeds before you start playing, making them mathematically impossible to predict. Anyone claiming to predict safe tiles is running a scam. Our calculator helps you understand the odds, not cheat the system.
Why does my multiplier show 0.99x instead of 1.00x on the first gem?
This is the 1% house edge in action. The formula is (Total Tiles ÷ Safe Tiles) × 0.99. So revealing one gem with 3 mines calculates as (25 ÷ 22) × 0.99 = 1.125 × 0.99 = 1.11x. The casino takes 1% on every multiplier calculation, which is how they maintain profitability while offering provably fair games.
When should I cash out?
Set a target multiplier before starting (like 2x, 5x, or 10x) and stick to it. Most players lose money by getting greedy after a few safe picks. A good rule of thumb: when your win chance drops below 50%, seriously consider cashing out. Use the calculator to find your target multiplier beforehand, then discipline yourself to cash out when you reach it.
What's the maximum win possible in Mines?
The theoretical maximum is 5,148,297x your bet—achieved by revealing all 24 gems with just 1 mine on the board. However, this requires surviving odds worse than 1 in 2.7 million. More realistic high multipliers include 1,000x-10,000x with strategic mine/gem combinations. Check the full payout table to plan achievable targets.
Can I verify that Mines is provably fair?
Yes! All major crypto casinos offer provably fair verification for Mines. After each round, you can view the server seed, client seed, and nonce used to generate mine positions. This calculator shows the odds and expected payouts—but to verify your actual game results were fair, use our Provably Fair Verifier tool for Stake, Shuffle, and BC.Game.
Does the RTP change based on how many mines I pick?
No—the RTP stays locked at 99% regardless of mine count. Adding more mines increases volatility (bigger swings in wins and losses) but doesn't change the long-term house edge. You'll lose the same 1% of total wagered whether playing 1 mine or 24 mines. More mines = higher multipliers but lower win probability.
Can I use this calculator while playing Mines live?
Absolutely—that's exactly what it's designed for. Set your mine count to match your active game, then update the gems count after each safe tile reveal. The calculator instantly shows your current multiplier and next-tile win probability, helping you make smarter cash-out decisions in real-time.
